In this Pyongyang Express tour, you’ll be whisked away into the ancient capital of the greatest dynasties in Korean history and the modern day capital of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.  Explore all of the iconic DPRK monuments like the Tower of Juche Idea, a massive 150-meter concrete structure and the mysterious Pyongyang metro, the deepest in the world. Step foot on the Kim Il Sung Square where all of the famous military parades take place and see the Fatherland Liberation War Museum alongside the USS Pueblo all in a weekend’s worth of travel.

Itinerary

Day 1: Depart for Pyongyang

Air Koryo Plane from Beijing to Pyongyang TU 204

10am: Meet us at Terminal 2, Air Koryo counter E, of the Beijing Capital International Airport to check in. We will hand out your DPRK visas at this time. Fly to Pyongyang, capital of the DPRK and home to many of the country’s most famous cultural sites. Our local guides will greet you at the airport. Your overnight stay will be at the Koryo Hotel. En route to hotel, we will stop at the world’s largest triumphal arc, the Arch of Triumph. Then visit the Mansudae Grand Monument, where the large, bronze statues of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il reside. Sometimes visitors are asked to follow local custom by bowing and laying flowers. At night we will check into the hotel and enjoy a welcome dinner. Optional evening activity: Kaeson Youth Amusement Park, a popular DPRK amusement park or taste craft brew at the Taedonggang Microbrewery. (Meals: L on flight, D)

Day 2: Pyongyang City Tour

AM: Kumsusan Palace of the Sun will be our first stop of the day. This is where the late leaders lie in state (closed in May and June; formal dress required).  Then we will take a walk in the Kim Il Sung Square, the 3rd largest public square in the world and many of the North Korean military parades broadcasted internationally here during large holiday events. We can stop in at the Foreign Languages Bookshop so you can pick up your favorite DPRK trinkets and publications and continue your Pyongyang city tour along the Taedong River Promenade.

Guide at Fatherland Liberation War Museum in North Korea DPRK PyongyangPM: After lunch, we visit the Mangyongdae Native House, where President Kim Il Sung was born. Then we will travel into the ground to take a 5-stop ride on the Pyongyang Metro, the deepest metro in the world. At the Tower of Juche Idea, we’ll learn about the Juche philosophy that serves as the national ideology. If you want to take the lift up 150-meters to the top, you’ll have an opportunity to take in a panorama view of the entire Pyongyang city. Get a dose of history (from a different perspective) at the newly renovated Victorious Fatherland Liberation War Museum and the USS Pueblo in its new spot (the “American Spy Ship” captured in 1968). Enjoy a last meal in Pyongyang and then head to the airport to return to Shanghai. Approximate time of departure is 10:30pm from Pyongyang with arrival at Pudong at 11:30pm. (Meals: B, L, D)
